Mirfield Sports Council (MSC) has been in existence since 1993.
In 1993 MSC was one of 5 sports councils in the Heavy Woollen Area and one of 10 in the Kirklees Area.
MSC is now the only surviving sports council in the Heavy Woollen/Kirklees Area.

MSC's objectives are as follows:

• To consult and co-operate with Mirfield headteachers and designated sports co-ordinators to organise and promote sporting competitions and events in local schools
• To consult and co-operate with Mirfield sports clubs to organise and promote
sporting competitions and sports development
• To assist Mirfield sports organisations to obtain funding and sponsorship
• To liaise with Kirklees Council on matters relating to sport in Mirfield
• To disseminate information relating to sport in Mirfield

MSC promotes and organises the following annual events:

• MSC Sports Awards
• Junior schools Kwik Cricket competition
• Veterans Bowls competition
• Junior schools Football competition
• MSC Sports Quiz
• Sporting events at Mirfield Show (martial arts demonstration, welly wanging, javelin throwing, children's races)
• Junior Tennis competitions.

MSC meets 5 times a year (usually Monday evenings 7:30 to 9:00 at Mirfield CC or Mirfield Parish Cavaliers CC).

We are self financing with our major fund raising event being the annual sports quiz. Some of our admin costs are met by Kirklees Council Leisure Services. We do not have our own website.

We are currently making efforts to recruit new members so we can increase our activities.
