I was born, raised and educated in Mirfield and returned to live here in 2003 after over 30 yrs service in the Armed Forces and the Foreign & Commonwealth Office. I have also been Chief Executive of three Chambers of Commerce and Industry and Director-General of an international educational charity. Currently, I teach part-time at Bradford University, where I gained a Master of Philosophy degree in 2007.

As Chair (and a trustee) of the Mirfield Community Partnership and Chair of the Mirfield History Society I am passionate that Mirfield retains its sense of identity; that and my distrust of 'professional' politicians (the product of a lifetime seeing the results of their incompetence!), led me to seek to become a local Councillor.

My hobbies are my three dogs, history, early music, folk music and - rather less actively these days - martial arts.

i am deputy chair of the council. i represent the council as a trustee and director of the kirklees historic buildings trust, and am deputy chair of the plans and environment committee.
i was educated at whitcliffe mount grammar school ,dewsbury college and huddersfield university where i got a degree in humanities and a diploma in health and social care.
i have a grown up family and work in a local care home for the elderly- , work that i have done for the last thirty years.
i am a govenor at boothroyd junior anf infants, and, flatts nursury schools.
i am involved in my local parish church, and have done some work as a local preacher, and enjoy reading and walking.
